Bio
Recruited from the Eastern Ranges with pick 25 in the 2014 National Draft, Daniel Nielson endured a difficult start to his AFL career after a ruptured ACL during his first pre-season wiped out his entire 2015 campaign. A key defender built for lockdown roles and spoiling rather than intercepting, he eventually broke into the North Melbourne senior side late in 2017, playing seven games and demonstrating his capacity to physically compete with opposition tall forwards. However, Nielson found opportunities limited in the following season, adding just one more game to his tally before being delisted at the end of 2018, departing the club having never fully established himself in the Kangaroos' backline.
