Originally selected by North Melbourne in the 2000 National Draft, Daniel Pratt endured a turbulent start to his AFL career, failing to play a senior game before being delisted. He was subsequently rookie-listed by the Brisbane Lions, where he managed just three appearances amidst a formidable premiership-era lineup before being cut again. Remarkably, the Kangaroos offered him a rare second chance at his original club, re-drafting him with pick 74 in 2004. This lifeline allowed Pratt to finally establish himself at Arden Street, where he evolved into a hard-nosed and uncompromising small defender known for his aggression and physical presence.

During his second stint with North Melbourne, Pratt became a fixture of the backline, utilising a penetrative right boot to generate drive from the defensive 50 and often taking kick-in duties. His most consistent campaign came in 2007, where he finished third in the Syd Barker Medal and represented Australia in the International Rules series. Elevated to the leadership group as Deputy Vice-Captain, he provided grit and experience to the side until injuries began to hamper his output, leading to his retirement in 2011 with 119 games to his name.
