Selected by Melbourne with pick 24 in the 2021 Mid-Season Rookie Draft from the Murray Bushrangers, Daniel Turner arrived at the club as a raw intercept defender known for his aerial judgement. Facing the challenge of breaking into an established backline featuring Steven May and Jake Lever, Turner was eventually reinvented as a swingman, notably drifting forward in 2024 to provide a contest and scoreboard impact when the Demons' attack was under pressure. Despite delivering a memorable match-winning haul against Richmond during that season, he struggled to maintain continuity at the top level due to injuries and inconsistent form. With just 37 appearances across his time at the club, Turner served primarily as a depth utility player, fighting for selection on the fringe of the best 22 rather than securing a permanent role in the starting lineup.
