Born in Singapore, Seow broke ground as a trailblazer for players of Chinese heritage in the VFL's modern era. Recruited from Montmorency, he burst onto the scene at Collingwood in 1986, winning the Harry Collier Trophy as the club's best first-year player. While typically deployed as a rebounding defender who could break lines, he showed his versatility by swinging forward to boot a career-high four goals against arch-rivals Carlton in 1987. His trajectory took a unique turn the following year when he left the game to trial as a wide receiver at the University of North Carolina, spending the 1988 season out of the system. He returned to Australia to be picked up by Melbourne in the 1989 Pre-Season Draft, adding a final chapter to a short but memorable career that is cited often for its unique international pathway.
