Teams

Recruited from the Sandringham Dragons with pick 43 in the 1998 National Draft, Danny Jacobs carved out a career as a smart, reading defender best known for his intercept marking and composure. He broke into a formidable Essendon lineup during their dominant 2000 campaign, playing 13 games but ultimately missing selection for the Premiership side. He solidified his standing the following year, becoming a fixture in the Bombers' backline and playing in the 2001 Grand Final loss to Brisbane. Jacobs operated effectively as a loose man in defence, using his football intelligence to cut off opposition attacks, though he possessed the versatility to play forward when required.

Following the 2003 season, salary cap pressures at Essendon forced a trade to Hawthorn, where Jacobs was initially a durable contributor, playing every game in his first two seasons at Glenferrie Oval. He finished fourth in the club's best and fairest in 2004, providing vital experience during a lean period for the Hawks. However, the latter stages of his career were severely hampered by persistent hip and hamstring issues, which limited his continuity as the club rebuilt under Alastair Clarkson. Unable to overcome these chronic injuries, Jacobs announced his retirement midway through the 2008 season.
