Bio
Originally recruited from Claremont in the WAFL, Darcy Cameron arrived at Sydney via the 2016 National Draft as a mature-age prospect. Despite his strong state league form, he found himself starved of senior opportunities behind established ruckmen, managing just a solitary game in three seasons with the Swans. Seeking a clearer pathway to AFL football, he requested a trade to Collingwood at the end of 2019, arriving at the club largely as a depth player intended to support Brodie Grundy and provide a tall target in attack.
Cameron's career trajectory shifted dramatically during the 2022 season when a long-term injury to Grundy allowed him to assume the primary ruck duties. Seizing the chance, he displayed excellent aerobic capacity and strong marking ability around the ground, performing so reliably that the club felt comfortable trading Grundy at the season's end. Now firmly established as Collingwood's first-choice ruckman, Cameron has evolved from a fringe forward-ruck into a premiership player and a vital structural pillar of the Magpies' midfield setup.
