Darren Baxter

Recruited from Glenroy within the club's local zone, Darren Baxter established himself as a reliable wingman for Footscray during the mid-to-late 1980s. Breaking into the senior side in 1984, he became a fixture in the Bulldogs' midfield, distinguished by his balance and ability to find space on the outer. He was a consistent contributor during the club's competitive period under Mick Malthouse, featuring in the 1985 finals campaign where the team fell just short of a Grand Final appearance. Throughout his tenure at the Western Oval, Baxter was regarded as a disciplined ball-winner who effectively linked play between the defensive line and attack.

Following the 1992 season, Baxter's time with the Bulldogs came to a close, and he was secured by Hawthorn via the pre-season draft to add experienced depth to a list transitioning out of its golden era. He spent two seasons at Glenferrie Oval but found regular senior opportunities harder to come by, adding just 13 games to his career tally before retiring at the end of 1994. While he did not secure major individual honours, Baxter remains a respected figure from the Bulldogs' 1980s era, remembered as a dedicated servant who played over 140 games for the club before finishing his career as a veteran presence at the Hawks.
