Teams

Recruited from Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray Football League, Darren Handley was a lively wingman and half-forward who made a sharp initial impact at Victoria Park. Wearing the number 49 guernsey, he broke into the Collingwood senior side in 1986 and quickly made a name for himself with a standout performance against Fitzroy at Waverley Park, where he amassed 28 disposals and booted four goals to secure three Brownlow votes. Despite showing significant promise as a ball-winner and goal-kicker, his stint with the Magpies was short-lived, and he transferred to Fitzroy for the 1987 season. Handley managed another two seasons with the Lions, adding depth to their midfield rotation, but his career was ultimately curtailed by a chronic groin injury that forced him to hang up the boots prematurely after just 22 senior games.
