Bio
Arriving in the AFL as a mature-age recruit after dominating the SANFL with North Adelaide, Darren Jarman originally refused to join the Brisbane Bears after being drafted #1 in 1986, eventually finding his way to Hawthorn via a trade in 1991. He immediately established himself as one of the competition's most skillful operators, utilizing his exquisite disposal and vision to help the Hawks secure the premiership in his debut season. A smooth-moving midfielder who could drift forward with lethal effect, Jarman was renowned for his ability to execute passes that few others could attempt, let alone complete.
After five seasons in Victoria, Jarman requested a trade home to South Australia and joined the Adelaide Crows for the 1996 season. It was here that he cemented his legacy as a genuine big-game specialist. While a consistent contributor throughout the home-and-away seasons, he is best remembered for his match-winning performances in back-to-back Grand Finals; he booted five goals in the final quarter of the 1997 decider to overrun St Kilda, followed by another five-goal haul in the 1998 victory over North Melbourne. A three-time premiership player and three-time All-Australian, Jarman retired in 2001 widely regarded as one of the greatest kicks in the history of the game.
