Bio
Recruited from Eltham in the Diamond Valley Football League, Darren McLaine was a mid-sized utility who worked his way through the Collingwood reserves to earn a senior call-up early in the 1984 season. After featuring in the Magpies' lower grades during 1983, he made his VFL debut in a Round 2 victory over St Kilda at Victoria Park, gathering a respectable 16 disposals. He held his spot for the following week's clash against Essendon at Windy Hill, where he booted his only career goal, but was unable to cement a place in a strong Collingwood side that would eventually reach that year's Preliminary Final. Following his brief stint at the top level, McLaine returned to local football, where he enjoyed further success as a premiership player with both Eltham and the Frankston Bombers.
