Bio
A tall utility standing 192cm, Darryl Cox was a journeyman footballer whose career was defined by persistence through a run of unfortunate injuries. Originally recruited from Regent Scouts, he spent four seasons on Fitzroy's list but struggled to cement a spot in the senior side before crossing to Melbourne in 1984 after a proposed move to Essendon collapsed over a transfer fee dispute. His stint with the Demons was interrupted by hamstring and shoulder issues, as well as a fiery Tribunal appearance in 1984 where he was reported three times in a single match for striking and attempted headbutting. Seeking a fresh start, Cox moved north to join the inaugural Brisbane Bears squad in 1987, where he famously played his solitary game for the club in a Round 2 victory over Geelong before being knocked out early in the contest. In modern football circles, his legacy has extended to the next generation as the father of Essendon swingman Nik Cox and Australian supermodel Montana Cox.
