Bio
Recruited from Corowa-Rutherglen in the Ovens and Murray League, Darryl Henderson was a defender who broke into the VFL with North Melbourne in the early 1980s. He arrived at Arden Street via North's strong country zoning connection to the region, playing 11 senior games over two seasons as a depth player in the Kangaroos' backline. Seeking greater opportunity, Henderson transferred to the Sydney Swans in 1983 as the club was still establishing its new identity in the harbour city. His time in red and white was tragically brief; in just his third appearance for his new club—a pioneering night match against Geelong at the SCG—he suffered a severe knee injury that ultimately ended his VFL career at the age of 25.
