Bio
Recruited from Assumption College via the Upper Murray league, Herrod arrived at Geelong as a promising talent but found himself stuck behind established stars at Kardinia Park. Despite winning the Gardiner Medal in 1966 as the best player in the VFL reserves, he struggled to cement a senior spot with the Cats, managing just a handful of appearances over two seasons. Seeking greater opportunity, he crossed to Fitzroy in 1968 where he quickly established himself as a reliable half-back flanker. Herrod became a consistent contributor for the Lions, playing his best football during the 1970 season before eventually departing the VFL to continue his career in Tasmania with North Hobart and later in the VFA with Port Melbourne.
