Bio
Recruited from Horsham in the Wimmera region, Darryl Schwarz was a ruckman whose VFL career was defined by his talent in the ruck and a persistent pull to return to country football. He first joined Melbourne in 1967, playing a single reserves match before heading home, only to be lured back to the Demons for a more sustained attempt the following season. Standing 189cm, Schwarz proved his quality by winning the club's Reserves Best and Fairest award in 1968 and breaking into the senior lineup to support the follower division. Despite managing 12 senior appearances over two seasons, he opted to return to Horsham in 1970, where he immediately cemented his local legacy by playing in a Wimmera Football League premiership.
