Bio
Recruited from coastal club Barwon Heads, Darryl Stephens was a tall key defender who provided vital squad depth during one of Geelong's strongest historical eras. Standing 188cm, he possessed the size and reach to man opposition spearheads, typically lining up at full-back where his spoiling ability was a key asset. Despite showing promise, Stephens faced the unenviable task of trying to displace established stars in a senior backline that underpinned the Cats' famous 1963 premiership campaign. While restricted to 17 senior appearances over four seasons, he carved out a significant legacy in the seconds, anchoring the defence in back-to-back reserves premiership victories in 1963 and 1964 alongside future club stalwarts.
