Bio
Recruited from Glenorchy, Darryl Sutton was a key component of the strong Tasmanian contingent that bolstered North Melbourne during the 1970s. A talented utility capable of playing both as a half-forward and a defender, Sutton is best remembered for his contribution to the Kangaroos' 1977 premiership campaign, where he booted three goals in the drawn Grand Final against Collingwood before playing in the victorious replay the following week. While highly skilled, he departed Arden Street after the 1980 season to captain-coach his home club in Tasmania, seemingly ending his VFL career.
Sutton was thrown a lifeline by Richmond in 1982, returning to the top level with immediate impact and earning selection in the Tigers' Grand Final side that lost to Carlton. This move made him one of the few players of his era to contest premiership deciders for two different clubs. His time at Punt Road was brief, and he finished his league career with a short stint at the Sydney Swans in 1983. A proud Tasmanian, Sutton represented his state with distinction and remains a celebrated figure in North Melbourne history as a premiership player.
