Bio
A product of the Broadview Football Club who developed into a star midfielder for North Adelaide in the SANFL, Darryl Wintle was handed an AFL lifeline as a mature-age recruit when the reigning premiers, Adelaide, selected him with pick 12 in the 1999 Pre-Season Draft. After briefly training with North Melbourne in the hopes of earning a spot on their list, Wintle stayed in South Australia and broke into the Crows' senior lineup for a debut in Round 2, playing three consecutive matches before a persistent foot injury derailed his season and led to his delisting at the end of the year. While his stint at the elite level was fleeting, Wintle returned to the Roosters to cement a significant legacy, serving as club captain from 2002 to 2007—a tenure that included leading the side to the 2007 Grand Final—and retiring as one of only three men to captain North Adelaide in over 100 matches.
