Recruited from North Adelaide in the SANFL, Daryl Cunningham was a rover and forward pocket who joined St Kilda ahead of the 1983 season. Possessing a sharp sense for goal and the ability to find space in the forward half, he served as a rotational small option for the Saints but found it difficult to secure a regular spot in the senior lineup over four years at Moorabbin. Cunningham transferred to Essendon for the 1987 season, where he was utilised as an opportunistic forward by Kevin Sheedy. He contributed 12 goals in nine games during his brief stint at Windy Hill before his VFL tenure concluded.
