Stats
Bio
Recruited to the Lake Oval as a developing tall, Daryl Nelson was a lanky ruckman and key position player who stood an imposing 191cm but played at a relatively light 79kg. He earned his senior debut for South Melbourne late in the 1954 season, appearing in the final three rounds of the year, but struggled to maintain a permanent place in the lineup against the competition's heavier opponents. Nelson remained a fringe player for the duration of his time with the Swans, adding just five games in 1955 and three in 1956 as he drifted in and out of the selected side. Unable to cement a long-term role in the senior team, he departed the VFL scene after the 1956 season with 11 career games and no goals.
