Bio
Recruited from Woodend in country Victoria, Daryl Powell was a diminutive teenage rover who earned a brief taste of senior football during a bleak period for the Melbourne Football Club. With the Demons languishing at the bottom of the ladder in 1969, Powell was handed his debut as a 17-year-old in the final two rounds of the season, collecting a handful of disposals against Fitzroy and South Melbourne. While his senior career was limited to that short late-season cameo during the club's wooden spoon campaign, he became a key contributor at the lower level, playing in back-to-back reserves premierships for the Demons in 1969 and 1970. Despite this success in the seconds, he was unable to force his way back into the senior lineup and eventually returned to country football, where he went on to captain Kyneton.
