Bio
Recruited from the rich football nursery of Terang in western Victoria, Daryl Salmon arrived at Victoria Park as a teenage prodigy and wasted no time making an impression. A dashing half-back flanker who played taller than his light frame suggested, Salmon was known for his courage in the air and his ability to rebound from defence with attacking flair. He quickly established himself in the Magpies' best 22, notably holding down a key defensive post during the club's 1973 finals campaign. Despite appearing destined for a long VFL career, Salmon's time in the black and white ended prematurely when he walked away from the game at just 21 years of age to return to the country. He subsequently cemented his legacy in the Hampden League, captaining Warrnambool to a hat-trick of premierships in the late 1970s.
