Bio
A foundational figure for South Melbourne during the dawn of the VFL era, Dave "Bud" Adamson was a versatile leader who anchored the club's defence through its early years. Originally a product of the local Napier Imperial juniors, his football journey was dictated by his career with the Bank of Australasia, which saw him captain Traralgon before returning to join his brother Jack for South’s inaugural VFL season in 1897. While he could operate as a follower, Adamson is best remembered as the skipper of the 1899 side, marshalling the troops from full-back during the club’s agonizing one-point Grand Final loss to Fitzroy. He remained a consistent performer at the Lake Oval until 1903, eventually departing to captain Albury to a premiership after another work transfer took him to the border.
