Recruited from Murrayville, Dave Duff produced one of the most efficient careers in league history, playing just 11 games in a single season yet departing as a premiership player. The sharp-shooting full-forward made his mark in 1926, headlined by a seven-goal haul against Hawthorn in Round 18 to cement his spot for September. Duff proved invaluable during the finals series, booting three goals in both the semi and preliminary finals before contributing two majors in the Grand Final triumph over Collingwood. Instead of continuing his VFL career, he returned to country football the following year and became a goal-kicking legend for Ballarat, slamming home a league-record 113 goals in 1927. Although North Melbourne later tried to lure him back to the city, Duff remained the ultimate one-season wonder, walking away with a perfect strike rate of one season played for one flag won.
