Bio
Recruited from local side Malvern, Dave Elliman was a utility player whose VFL career was bookended by historic moments despite his sporadic appearances. He debuted for Melbourne as a teenager during their winless 1919 campaign but struggled to cement a regular spot in the senior side, spending the 1921 season in the VFA where he played in the centre for Williamstown’s premiership team. After returning to the Demons for three seasons, Elliman crossed to Hawthorn for their entry into the league in 1925, earning a permanent place in club history as a forward pocket in the Mayblooms' inaugural VFL match against Richmond. He managed just three games for Hawthorn before moving to Camberwell, eventually relocating to New South Wales where he became a distinguished figure in the game's northern expansion as a Phelan Medalist and state captain-coach.
