Stats
Bio
Recruited from Leopold in the Geelong district, Dave Engellenner was a lightly built rover and wingman who represented South Melbourne during the turbulent years of the Second World War. Standing 175cm and weighing just 68kg, he relied on agility rather than size, establishing himself as a regular fixture in the lineup during his first two seasons with 23 appearances across 1941 and 1942. However, his opportunities dwindled as the war progressed and player availability shifted, restricting him to just a handful of games in his final three years. His career ended on a bittersweet note in 1945; after playing in the Swans' Round 1 victory over St Kilda, he was omitted the following week to make way for debuting Team of the Century rover Billy Williams, ultimately missing out on the club's run to the infamous "Bloodbath" Grand Final.
