Bio
Hailing from the Western Australian Goldfields town of Kurrawang, Dave Ferguson was an audacious recruit who crossed the continent to make his mark in the VFL. Though he arrived at Geelong as a centre half-forward, he etched his name into folklore as a courageous defender during the club's breakthrough maiden premiership in 1925. In a legendary Grand Final performance, Ferguson was instrumental in keeping Collingwood goal-kicking machine Gordon Coventry goalless, famously taking a match-saving mark while flat on his back against three Magpie opponents in the dying seconds. His career followed an unusual trajectory, as he returned to the bush to play for Kalgoorlie City in 1926 before being lured back to the Pivot City the following season. After 39 games in the hoops, he eventually finished his time in the big league with a brief seven-game stint at North Melbourne in 1931.
