Bio
Recruited from Melbourne Grammar, Dave Gibson stepped into a baptism of fire at St Kilda during the club's disastrous 1898 campaign. He managed to hold his place for 10 senior appearances in a side that went winless for the entire season and was routinely heavily defeated by the competition's stronger lineups. Gibson toiled away in a struggling squad that finished dead last, facing an immense disparity in scoring power against opposition clubs. His career at the elite level was confined to that single testing winter, departing the VFL scene as one of the many short-term soldiers who helped the Saints field a team during their arduous foundation years.
