Recruited from Christian Brothers College in Abbotsford, Dave Lynch was a potent full-forward whose senior opportunities never quite matched his prolific scoring ability. Possessing a deadly snap shot and a clever lead, Lynch spent the majority of the 1920s dominating the reserves competition, where he booted 400 goals and eventually spearheaded the Tigers to their first-ever seconds premiership in 1929. His senior career was a series of potent cameos, most notably in 1926 when he won the club's goalkicking award despite playing just six matches after a mid-season call-up. While he later found consistency as a captain-coach in the sub-districts with Darling, Lynch remains a unique figure in Punt Road history as a backup spearhead who averaged nearly four goals a game at the top level yet struggled to cement a permanent spot in the 22.
