Bio
Recruited from the Essendon District League, Dave Walsh initially made his mark at League level as a forward for Essendon, where he topped the club's goalkicking in 1919. He departed the VFL to play in the Association, spending time with Essendon 'A' before crossing to North Melbourne, where he transformed himself into a premier defender. When North Melbourne entered the VFL in 1925, Walsh was a key figure in their inaugural lineup, anchoring the backline with a reputation for being steady, reliable, and clever. His excellence as a full-back was recognised with state selection for Victoria and a top-five finish in the 1926 Brownlow Medal, though his career was unfortunately curtailed the following year by a severe knee injury.
