Bio
A towering ruckman recruited from Bentleigh-McKinnon who graduated through Melbourne’s development pathways, David Allday showed genuine glimpses of quality during his brief time at the top level. After breaking into the Demons' senior lineup, he enjoyed a standout 1986 campaign where he polled six Brownlow votes—including a best-on-ground performance against Fitzroy at Waverley—but was surprisingly delisted the following pre-season due to the club’s surplus of ruck depth. After a year out of the VFL, he was thrown a lifeline by Footscray in 1988, where he served largely as a backup tall to Richard Cousins. While he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the elite competition, Allday later carved out a formidable legacy in the VFA with Werribee, eventually winning a club best and fairest and the Norm Goss Medal as best afield in the 1993 Grand Final.
