Bio
Arriving at Punt Road with the heavy weight of expectation on his shoulders, David Bourke joined Richmond as a father-son selection in the 1994 National Draft, the son of club "Immortal" Francis Bourke. A tall and athletic utility who looked most comfortable on a wing or half-back flank, Bourke possessed a distinctive running gait and strong overhead marking ability, though his light frame often made contested situations difficult against stronger opponents. While he played 85 games for the Tigers and showed glimpses of potential, particularly in the late 1990s, inconsistency and injury prevented him from fully cementing a key position or stepping out of his father's shadow. After falling out of favour under Danny Frawley, he was traded to the Kangaroos ahead of the 2002 season in search of a fresh start, but he managed just one senior appearance for the club before his AFL career concluded.
