Bio
Recruited from East Ringwood, David Brine was a tall defender who managed three senior appearances for Collingwood during the 1980 season. With Tom Hafey’s side marching toward a Grand Final appearance that year, breaking into the Magpies’ defensive rotation proved difficult for the youngster, and his brief VFL stint ended without a goal. However, Brine carved out a significant legacy in the VFA with Preston, becoming a central figure in the club's golden era. He played in back-to-back premierships in 1983 and 1984, famously serving as the stand-in captain for the 1983 Grand Final victory after skipper Ray Shaw was ruled out with injury. Brine went on to captain the Bullants full-time and skippered the VFA representative side, remembered as a reliable backman and a distinguished leader at Association level.
