Recruited from Echuca, David Cameron was a capable forward who became a significant figure in Geelong's powerful late-1980s lineup. He first captured attention with a stunning eight-goal haul against North Melbourne at the MCG in 1987, spoiling a milestone match for the opposition, but he is best remembered for his display of grit in the legendary 1989 Grand Final where he played through the pain of a broken collarbone. Despite his standing at Kardinia Park, Cameron became central to a high-profile trade at the end of 1990, sent to the Brisbane Bears alongside Shane Hamilton in exchange for the number one selection in the National Draft. He proved a serviceable target for the Bears, finishing third in the club's goalkicking in 1991, before his AFL career concluded the following season.
