Bio
Recruited from South Warrnambool in the Hampden League, David Crutchfield was a tall utility who arrived at Fitzroy with high expectations. He made his senior debut late in the 1985 season and played the final four games of the year, showing promise with a high-possession performance against Geelong, but was ultimately delisted without adding to his VFL tally. Far from finishing with football, Crutchfield moved interstate and carved out a decorated career, starring for Southport in the QAFL where he tied for the Grogan Medal in 1992. He eventually settled in South Australia as a player-coach for Loxton North in the Riverland Football League, establishing a local dynasty by leading the club to four consecutive premierships before his premature death in 2002.
