Bio
Selected by Carlton with pick 23 in the 2015 National Draft, David Cuningham arrived from the Oakleigh Chargers as a classy midfielder-forward with elite speed and evasion. Throughout his tenure at Princes Park, he teased fans with glimpses of his line-breaking capability and goal sense, offering a dynamic point of difference to the Blues' engine room when available. However, his career was severely hampered by a relentless string of injuries—ranging from recurring calf strains to knee and shoulder issues—which prevented him from ever playing more than 12 games in a single season. Despite enduring multiple rehabilitations and showing promise whenever he could string matches together, the lack of continuity ultimately cost him a solidified role in the side. After nine seasons and 58 appearances, Cuningham was delisted at the end of 2024, leaving as a talented prospect whose body rarely allowed him to reach his full potential.
