Bio
Recruited from Tasmanian powerhouse Clarence, David Donato arrived at Fitzroy with significant expectations as the third overall selection in the 1990 National Draft. A lightly built wingman and half-forward, he broke into the senior side late in the 1991 season, playing 12 consecutive games to finish the year and averaging a respectable 12 disposals per match. Despite this run of consistency, he was unable to consolidate his spot on the Lions' list and was delisted after just one season, becoming a notable example of the hit-and-miss nature of early draft scouting. Donato subsequently returned to his home state to resume his local career with Clarence in the TFL.
