Bio
Recruited from Nhill in the Wimmera, David Flood was a talented tall utility who debuted as a 17-year-old but spent much of his decade at Essendon battling for selection in a formidable lineup. Standing 188cm with a strong overhead mark, he initially showed promise as a forward before settling into defensive roles, though he often struggled to cement a permanent position amidst the depth of the "Baby Bombers" era. His time at Windy Hill is defined by a significant hard-luck story from the 1993 premiership season; despite playing in the Semi and Preliminary final victories, he was omitted from the Grand Final side to accommodate returning veterans Dean Wallis and Mark Harvey. Flood remained with the club until 1995 and later established himself as a respected development coach, guiding the Calder Cannons to a TAC Cup premiership and working under Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn.
