Bio
Arriving at Richmond with significant hype as the first selection in the 2007 Pre-Season Draft, David Gourdis was a raw Western Australian prospect who famously dominated the draft combine. A frighteningly athletic key position player, he set a long-standing record for the running vertical jump and clocked elite sprint times, though his natural physical gifts didn't immediately translate to senior football. After failing to debut in his first season, he was delisted and immediately re-drafted by the Tigers as a rookie, effectively earning a second chance to develop his game sense. Gourdis eventually broke into the side as a rebounding defender late in 2010, using his explosive pace to break lines from the back half, but he struggled to cement a spot in the 22. He departed Punt Road with just four senior games to his name, remembered primarily as a testing phenomenon who couldn't quite bridge the gap between elite athlete and consistent AFL footballer.
