Bio
Recruited from SANFL club Glenelg after originally hailing from Bordertown, David Grenvold joined Essendon as a mature-age recruit with pick 19 in the 1988 National Draft. He quickly established himself as an uncompromising back pocket, valued by coach Kevin Sheedy for his discipline and close-checking ability against dangerous opposition small forwards. While rarely a high-possession winner, his defensive accountability made him a fixture in the senior side throughout the early 1990s.
Grenvold's most significant contribution to the club came as a member of the celebrated "Baby Bombers" 1993 Premiership team, where he provided experienced cover in defence amidst a youthful lineup. He remained a consistent contributor for Essendon, rarely missing games when fit, until he retired at the conclusion of the 1997 season as a highly respected one-club player.
