Recruited from South Fremantle, David Hart was an inaugural West Coast Eagle who became one of the club's most reliable and dynamic servants during its first decade. While he began his career as a small forward and rover, he eventually found his niche as a running defender who used his blistering pace to break lines and launch counter-attacks. A consistently high performer during the Eagles' rise to power, Hart was a fixture in the side that dominated the early 1990s, renowned for his ability to shut down dangerous small forwards while accumulating plenty of the ball himself.

Hart's career narrative is defined by the heartbreak of 1992 and his subsequent redemption. After playing a key role in the club's build-up to its first premiership, a serious groin injury sustained in the finals forced him to watch from the sidelines as his teammates made history against Geelong. He bounced back to produce a career-best season in 1994, earning All-Australian selection and finally securing his premiership medallion in the grand final thrashing of the Cats. Remembered fondly for his dashing run and long-kicking ability, he was later named in the back pocket of the Eagles' Team of the Decade.
