Bio
A product of the local private school system, David Hinchliffe emerged as a dual-sports talent from The Geelong College, where he captained the First XVIII and excelled as a cricketer. A tall, left-footed defender best suited to centre half-back, he was noted by recruiters for his beautiful kicking style and strong overhead marking. After cutting his teeth with the Geelong Amateurs in the VAFA, he was elevated to the Geelong senior list for the 1960 season. Hinchliffe managed three senior appearances in the Hoops during that solitary season but was unable to command a permanent spot in the defensive six. A well-regarded figure in local sporting circles who also bowled for the Geelong Country Week cricket team, he eventually moved to Queensland following his brief stint at the elite level.
