Bio
Recruited as a mature-age prospect from VFA powerhouse Port Melbourne with pick 46 in the 1993 National Draft, David King wasted little time establishing himself at North Melbourne. He swiftly became the prototype for the modern dashing defender, utilizing exceptional pace and endurance to break lines and drive the ball deep inside 50. His aggressive run-and-carry style was instrumental to the Kangaroos' success under Denis Pagan, providing the fast, direct delivery required for the club's famous open forward line.
A dual premiership player in 1996 and 1999, King's ability to perform on the big stage was a hallmark of his career, often drifting forward to kick crucial goals on the run from outside fifty. His consistency on the wing and half-back flank was recognised with All-Australian selection in 1996 and 2000, while he also represented Victoria in State of Origin football. He remained a loyal one-club player throughout his tenure, retiring in 2004 as one of the most damaging outside runners of his generation and a pivotal figure in North Melbourne's golden era.
