Bio
A 200cm ruckman out of the Geelong Falcons, David Loats was a long-term project player who spent five seasons on Hawthorn’s list but struggled to crack the senior side. With the Hawks boasting big men like Peter Everitt and Nathan Thompson, Loats was starved of opportunity, managing just 11 games in the brown and gold after making his debut in 2002. Seeking a fresh start and a return to his native region, he was moved to Geelong at the end of 2003 in a three-way trade that sent Simon Beaumont to Hawthorn and David Clarke to Carlton. Loats arrived at Kardinia Park as insurance for captain Steven King but found himself stuck in the reserves, playing just a single senior match for the Cats before being delisted at the end of 2004.
