Bio
David Mirra's path to the AFL was defined by resilience, finally earning a spot on Hawthorn's rookie list in late 2017 after years of dominance at the state league level. A long-serving captain of the Box Hill Hawks, he led the VFL affiliate to a premiership and claimed a club best and fairest before the senior club rewarded his persistence as a mature-age recruit at age 26. A key defender known for his intercept marking and ability to read the play, Mirra provided a steady hand in the backline, utilising his strength and leadership experience to organise the defence. While he made a memorable debut in 2018, he found it difficult to lock down a permanent spot in the senior side against younger competition. After 11 games across two seasons, he was delisted at the end of 2019, leaving a legacy as a dedicated clubman who successfully bridged the gap between the VFL and AFL programs.
