Bio
Recruited from Warrnambool in the Hampden Football League, David Mitchell was a mid-sized utility who earned his opportunity with Fitzroy during the 1986 VFL season. Standing 183cm, he was utilised primarily as a rotating forward and wingman, making a promising start to his career by hitting the scoreboard in his debut against Geelong at Kardinia Park. Mitchell retained his place in the senior side for a month of football, kicking goals in his first two appearances and featuring in a hard-fought win over Footscray. However, his influence waned in subsequent heavy losses to Essendon and Carlton, leading to his omission after just four senior games. He did not return to the senior lineup, remaining a brief footnote in the Lions' history during a turbulent era for the club.
