Bio
Drafted by Essendon with the sixth overall pick in the 2007 National Draft, David Myers arrived from Western Australia with the expectation of becoming a cornerstone of the Bombers' midfield. A prototype big-bodied on-baller, he was renowned for his ability to win contested possession and a booming left-foot kick capable of clearing lines from long range. Despite these physical gifts, his development was frequently hampered by a series of soft-tissue injuries that prevented him from securing a consistent spot in the side during his formative years.
Myers played arguably his best football between 2013 and 2014, emerging as a crucial clearance winner and leadership figure for the club. His career trajectory was significantly disrupted by the fallout of the supplements saga, resulting in a season-long suspension in 2016. He returned to serve the club for three more seasons, often acting as a mentor to younger midfielders, before retiring in 2019. While his tally of 123 games left many wondering what he could have achieved with a clean run at fitness, Myers departed as a respected one-club player who provided stability during a tumultuous period in Essendon's history.
