Stats
Bio
Recruited from North Ballarat after winning the Henderson Medal as a teenager, David Norman was a tenacious rover and small forward who carved out a distinct niche at Victoria Park. Known for his strength over the ball and a deadly eye for goal, he became a consistent scoring outlet for the Magpies, topping the club's goalkicking in 1965 and featuring in the heartbreaking 1964 Grand Final loss to Melbourne. While he possessed the skill and courage of a long-term player, Norman’s VFL career was abruptly curtailed at age 24, the casualty of a midfield selection squeeze following the arrival of future Hall of Famers Wayne Richardson and Barry Price. He returned to the bush to dominate country football, leaving behind a legacy as a talented, hard-at-it small man whose time at the top level ended far too soon.
