Bio
Recruited from Colac in western Victoria, David Rankin was a small utility who played a peripheral role for Fitzroy before carving out a significant legacy in the WAFL. Standing just 173cm, he struggled to command a regular spot in the Lions' senior side, managing only nine games across two seasons despite showing flashes of ball-winning ability, including a 20-disposal effort against South Melbourne in 1980. After leaving the VFL, Rankin moved west to join East Fremantle, where he transformed into a durable and consistent performer. He played 152 games for the Sharks, primarily as a wingman or small defender, and was a key member of their 1985 premiership team that defeated Subiaco by five points.
