Recruited from Cobden in country Victoria, David Rhodes was a classy, blonde-headed winger who provided vital run and carry for Fitzroy during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He established himself as a polished outside midfielder, known for his ability to find space and deliver the ball with precision during a period when the Lions often struggled for team success. His individual consistency and skill were rewarded with selection for the Big V, representing Victoria at the 1972 Perth Carnival—a significant accolade that underlined his quality as a top-tier state player. After six seasons and 72 games in the VFL, Rhodes headed west to continue his football journey in the WAFL with Subiaco.
