Bio
Originally signed by Carlton, David Robbie faced a frustrating start to his VFL career, forced to wait two years for the Blues' hold on his services to expire before he could finally join Melbourne. A diminutive wingman standing just 173cm, he managed sporadic senior appearances for the Demons over three seasons but struggled to cement a permanent place in the lineup. His prospects of a breakout year were dashed during the 1966 pre-season when a serious knee injury curtailed his league career and led to his departure from the club. While his time in the VFL was brief, Robbie went on to become a decorated figure in regional football, winning a Hampden League Best and Fairest as captain-coach of Casterton and later coaching clubs in Tasmania and South Australia.
